The Center for EU Cooperation was founded in 2010 as the Center for Cooperation with UCL (University College London, School of Slavonic and East European Studies), in 2010 to develop teaching and scientific cooperation with one of the prestigious academic and research institutions. In December 2018, it changed its name to the Center for EU Cooperation, with the change becoming final after the decision of the Faculty Council of February 26, 2019. The Center’s greater involvement in European projects and cooperation with partner institutions from the EU has prompted the change, as has the need for increased cooperation with EU institutions in the scientific and academic community.
The center is dedicated to developing studies in the humanities and social sciences in English at the Faculty of Philosophy. One of the first international master’s programs in English at the University of Belgrade was accredited within the center in 2014. The one-year master’s program Society, State, Transition of DDT can also be attended as a two-year program within the IMESs consortium managed by UCL. Many Erasmus collaborations have been initiated through the activities of the Center’s associates, as well as cooperation within the CEEPUS academic networks. The members of the Center were responsible for the implementation of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN project FATIGUE – Delayed Transformational Fatigue in Central & Eastern Europe: Responding to the Rise of Illiberalism/Populism (2018-2021). The members of the Center were responsible for the implementation of the first Jean Monnet Module at the Department of History: EUBAL – European Union and the Western Balkans: Modernization and Challenges of Integration (2020-2023). The Center is open to proposals for cooperation regarding the development of academic mobility, new study programs, new curricula and improving the quality of teaching.
Within the framework of research activities, the members of the Center are open to cooperation with institutions from the region and Europe for joint research projects. The members of the Center have led national and European projects. The most significant national project was Modernization of the Western Balkans (2010-2020). Through this project that brought together researchers from the University of Belgrade, the University of Niš and the University of Arts in Belgrade, a part of more than 80 publications and 20 scientific monographs, seven PhD students finished their studies and got employed within the HEIs. The Center was a partner and implementer of the Horizon 2020 project POPREBEL – Populist rebellion against modernity in 21st-century Eastern Europe: neo-traditionalism and neo-feudalism (2019-2022). As part of its scientific dissemination and public work, the Center has organized national and international conferences, as well as publishing activities. The members and associates of the Center have been engaged in many international, regional projects that dealt with research in the field of humanities and social sciences. Within the Center, we are ready for new projects and cooperation with European and regional partners.
The founders of the Center are prof. dr. Nikola Samardžić and prof. dr. Haris Dajč.
